Aftercare

Please follow these instructions:

Remove the bandage from your fresh tattoo when you get home. Using only your hands, wash the entire area gently with warm soapy water (using a mild liquid anti-bacterial soap ie: Dial). Make sure to wash away any blood/plasma/ointment that may have accumulated. Let air dry or carefully pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel.

Once dry, with clean hands apply a very thin layer of Aquaphor over the entire tattoo - you only need a small amount massaged into the area - the area should barely look moist after this. Less is more. It is better to apply to little than too much. Do not oversaturate it with Aquafor or soak your tattoo in water. Washing lightly is fine. Do not soak in a tub or pool.

Note: It is not necessary to re-bandage your tattoo after this unless specifically instructed by your artist.

SANIDERM:

Leave the original bandage on for 8-24 hours. If bandage weeps, remove it. Wash and dry the tattoo as mentioned above but do not apply Aquaphor or any ointment. Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Apply a second Saniderm bandage if continuing with that healing method and leave it on for 4-7 days. If not continuing with Saniderm follow the instructions below for aftercare.

DAILY FOR FIRST 3-5 DAYS:

Continue with the process of gently washing the tattoo, patting it dry, and applying Aquaphor at least twice a day. It's perfectiy fine for your tattoo to get wet in the shower, just don't over saturdate (soak) it for at least 2 weeks or until fully healed.

Note: Your body will reject some ink within the first week - this is 100% normal, but keep in mind that it may transfer to bedding/ clothing.

DAILY AFTER 3-5 DAYS:

Switch from Aquaphor to a fragrance and dye free lotion. Apply lotion to keep the area moisturized at least twice daily for the remaining 2-3 weeks healing time. Be sure to massage the lotion into the area well.

Note: When your tattoo starts to heal it will itch and peel - be careful not to pick or scratch it - gently slapping the area works best.Scabbing can be expected while healing as well - again, leave it alone and don't pick at the scabs.

Both while healing and after your tattoo is fully healed you'll always want to protect it from UV rays (sun/tanning beds) as they will damage and fade the tattoo. Only use sunblock on a fully healed tattoo. A minimum of 30SPF sunblock is suggested to keep your tattoo looking vibrant and bright.

This is the process that we have found works best for our clients after years and years of experience. We want you to have an amazing tattoo that you love. Aftercare is extremely important. If you have any problems or questions, do not hesitate to call or stop into the studio!
